Jay Burckhardt | Yoga Instructor
Growing up in a small town, Jay lived outdoors. Sports and recreation were a mandatory part of life and staying active was an everyday adventure. From playing sports when he was young, he had a good understanding of body movement and mechanics.
Once moving to Chicago to pursue work in film, Jay began managing in health clubs and working the nightlife scene as one of Chicago’s predominant and star Bartenders. As time continued Jay transferred his attention to working in the world of Stunts and Fight Choreography for theatre and film. Opening his own Fight Choreography Company called JK Choreography in 2007, he transitioned out of the nightlife industry to focus on all-around fitness training and body movement. Currently, Jay is wearing many hats is his main talent as he manages and teaches at a Yoga studio, teaches at Columbia College Chicago and runs his film Choreography Company.
Outside of work, Jay is an avid volleyball player, sometimes hitting the court five days a week and of course the beach in the summer.
PRE WORKOUT RITUAL:
Setting an intention in my mind, usually a single word which I keep coming back to in my workout to stay motivated. My favorite is “Inspire”.
Teddy Grahams! I swear they show up in my cabinet by themselves!
Comfort is key! Comfort builds confidence and anything that lets me get ready to move!
IN MY PAST LIFE:
Definitely some sort of feline predator. Maybe like a tiger; Strong, fast, agile and gracefully lazy when I want to be.
